Q) What's all this then?
The Fursuit Tag Index is a database that indexes fursuit tags with their owners, and anybody can edit it! Fursuit tags are usually series of tags made to look like ear tags, gift tags, or beanie baby tags, for example, each with a unique number. They are usually given out to fursuiters at furry conventions to be worn on ears or as badges. A few tags are coveted by a small number of fans and have been sold at charity auctions for as much as $1,600.
Q) What series of tags are indexed?
Right now the only series that is up is the Dorsai Migratory Study. These were the tags given out by the Dorsai Irregular at Anthrocon from 2006 to 2010. We plan on expanding to other series such as the "Cake" tags given out by ChillyMouse at MFF, and the KDC and other supplementary tags given out by the Dorsai at various conventions.
Q) I want my tag to be listed! What do I do?
All you need to do is click [Edit] next to your tag number, and fill out as much information as you can. You'll need to include your fursuit's name and a photograph of the fursuit at the very least. (It's alright if your photo does not depict the tag in question, but it would be great if it does!)
Q) I want my friend's tag to be listed! What do I do?
Feel free to contribute as much to the index as you can! Just remember that you'll need a photo of the fursuit to which the tag belongs.
Q) I submitted some information but it didn't show up in the index!
Updates are moderated at this point in time to ensure that the website is well-maintained and safe-for-work. If it takes longer than a day for your changes to appear, they were probably rejected. (You can also include your email address when making a change, in which case you'll see an email once your submission is approved.)
Q) I submitted some information and it showed up in the index but I'd like to update the information!
If you need to correct a mistake, change outdated information, or submit a new photo for an existing record, simply click [Edit] next to that record and change any information necessary. If you do not want to change the existing photo, leave the Photo fields blank.
Q) I have a tag that is shared between multiple fursuits, or that was given to me by another fursuiter.
The index will display as many fursuiters for a tag as needed. To add another fursuit for the same tag, click [Add New] next to a record associated with the tag. This will create a second line for the same tag number, whereas the [Edit] button replaces existing entries.
I recommend taking advantage of the Notes field to indicate that the Tag was received from another owner (instead of directly from the issuer, such as the Dorsai or a convention), or it is shared between other fursuiters.
Q) I have two or more tags in a series that are worn by the same fursuit!
This is common, especially for tags that are distributed over several years. Feel free to add your fursuit to the index for every tag associated with it. You're free to reuse photos in this case, just remember that it's best if a photo shows, at the very least, the tag number for that particular entry.
Q) Who runs the website?
The website and database are maintained by Skippyfox and hosted by LupineFox. Protocollie is also developing a nicer interface.
Q) Can you add support for such-and-such tags?
Sure - just contact me and give me all the information you've got about them. Photos and details about the tags (where they came from, who created/distributed them, how many there are/will be) are extremely helpful!
Q) I have an idea that could make this website cooler/better/wackier!
Awesome! Feel free to get in touch with me!
Q) This site is so ugly!
Thanks! We wanted it to work well before we bothered to make it look nice. We're working on it!
